First let's start with the raw material - 6061 aerospace grade aluminum-scandium alloy. Scandium alloys are used for extreme applications where lightweight, machineability, high strength and much improved heat resistance are needed - like Russian Mig 29 fighters and Smith & Wesson AirWeight 357 Magnum revolver frames. Energy both heat treats and cryogenically treats the billets to get them to their peak potential.
Next comes the design and quality of machining. We are not fans of the excessive lightening we see on other billet blocks. What's the point in taking off a few more pounds of aluminum? We'd rather leave it on rather than risk losing strength. Ben mentions chamfering as one of their items of focus. The reason is that any sharp edge is a potential stress riser and point of failure. A perfectly chamfered block is much less likely to fail - all else being equal.
If you watch the video below (March 2021), you'll hear Energy's Ben Mens mention that we were using an Energy billet aluminum block for a methanol twin-turbo LS build. The second video below is the finished engine (and car) putting out an amazing 3,522 flywheel horsepower.
We are authorized dealers for both Energy and Callies. We maintain inventory of high-end LS parts to get you on the racetrack and into the winners circle in a hurry.
